Our Mission
Lost & Hound NC is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) started by a registered nurse and EMT in eastern NC. We are dedicated to saving the lives of abandoned dogs in Eastern North Carolina by providing safe, reliable transport to shelters and rescues in the Northeast and other regions where adoption rates are significantly higher. By bridging this geographic gap, we reduce overcrowding, prevent euthanasia, and give dogs a real second chance at life.
Although we are not an intake rescue, we routinely retrieve abandoned dogs in rural areas and see that they are vetted and neutered / spayed. We then work to place them in a permanent, caring and dedicated home.
In 2026, our intention is to manage operations with a smaller, reliable transport van that allows us to launch initial routes quickly and safely. As we establish these early trips, we will simultaneously focus on fundraising efforts to design and build a custom transport shuttle capable of accommodating a larger number of animals with increased comfort, safety, and efficiency. This long‑term investment will enable more frequent trips, expanded reach, and have a greater impact on the lives of at‑risk dogs across our region.
